UK VAT Changes from January 2010

In line with the Chancellor’s instructions, the temporary 15% VAT rate ended on 31st December 2009. From 1st January 2010 the UK VAT rate reverted to 17.5%. This change will be evident in your January 2010 bill. For more information please see our VAT change Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) below.

UK VAT Change FAQs

1. How are my call charges affected?

Any calls made on or after 1st January will be subject to VAT at 17.5%. Calls made in December and billed in January will still be subject to 15% VAT.

2. Will the cost of my package change?

The excluding VAT amount for your monthly package will remain the same, however, when the VAT rate goes up you will see a small increase in your overall monthly service charge. For example, if you are on our euCALL Anytime call package your including VAT monthly charge will increase from £3.90 to £3.98 per month.

3. What will my January 2010 invoice show?

As call charges are billed in arrears and service fees in advance, your January 2010 invoice will use two different VAT rates. 15% VAT for your calls and 17.5% for your service fees. To allow for the use of these two rates, your January invoice will include a one-off VAT adjustment for your December calls.

4. How are credits affected?

If you need to receive a credit, the amount you receive will not change. For example, if you were overcharged £10.00 in September 2009 and a credit is applied on or after the 1st January 2010, you will receive a £10.00 credit.
